DIY Wedding Make-Up Part 1
Wedding makeup is actually an easy thing to do yourself, if you are used to doing your own makeup. All you need is practice and the right products. You definitely want to avoid any makeup with SPF in it, the Titanium Dioxide it will cause a gray cast on your skin in photos. Also, stay away from translucent powders and mineral type powders, some people think they photograph well, but they really don't. Here's what you should do:
Do test products for the months leading up to your wedding. Go to Sephora, pick a few things out and try them for a week. Take pictures and make sure the make up lasts all day. You can return used items to Sephora, even without a receipt, so keep exchanging until you find the right products.
Waterproof makeup is your friend! Make sure you wear waterproof mascara, you will most likely be crying and you don't want to look like a raccoon in photos. Eyeliner and lipstick is also a good idea.
Opt for Matte makeup instead of shimmers. The shimmer in makeup can make you look greasy in photos.
Apply your makeup in natural light! Makeup looks best applied in natural light.
Prime, Prime, Prime! Definitely use primer on your wedding day. It will make your makeup last and fill in small pores and imperfections.
Use a makeup setting spray. There are few notable setting sprays out there; Urban Decay, Make Up For Ever and some people even use hair spray. These sprays will set your makeup and make sure it doesn't slide off your face, mid-reception.
Check back for our second part, where I'll tell you the specific makeup products you need, good brands, and what I did for my wedding day.

The Knot/Wedding Channel has debuted a daily deal site of their own. Just like Gilt, Rue La La and Hautelook, Wedding Channel offers a deal every day. They have one national deal everyday and some for specific cities. I've seen awesome deals on tuxes, photography, beauty and dresses. Sign Up to get daily deals sent to your email, and help you achieve the wedding of your dreams on a dreamy budget.
Today's deal is $130 of stationery from Vistaprint for $50. This is a great deal since vistaprint is so cheap to begin with. Their Magnet Save the Dates are especially great!

Timeline: 3-5 months
Order wedding invitations*
This is important, for obvious reasons. Depending on where you get your invites, they will take a few weeks to produce. Your invites should be sent out 1-2 months ahead of the wedding depeding on when you have to give your final head count. Make sure you leave enough time for ordering and addressing the invites and for your guests to respond. If you are going DIY (which I definately reccomend) You should start early, because the invites are a pretty big project.
Plan honeymoon
If you're going on a honeymoon, decide where you want to go and for how long. Reservations for hotels are the most important to be done early. Plane tickets can be delayed if you're waiting for a good deal.
Select and order wedding favors
This is just easy to be done early, so you can get it out of the way, especially if you're going DIY. I reccomend edible favors, as they're most likely to be used by your guests. Most guests won't want a mini picture frame of you or a candle with your wedding date on it. Keep it simple and keep your guests in mind and you'll be find.
Order groom’s & groomsmen’s attire
I think this can actually be finished up to a month ahead of time with Men's Warehouse. You should know the general style and reserve your date though.
Select wedding bands*
This is super important to order early, you do want to have bands on your wedding day, right? There are a lot of factors that cause bands to have a long processing time: unusual sizes, engraving, special orders/custom designs
Book hair and makeup*
If you are getting your hair/makeup done, you should book this soon. Most of the good artist book ahead of time and your hair and makeup need to perfect, so make sure you get the best!
Finalize menu for reception
Not too important, just better to get it finished early. This can really be done up to a month ahead of time.
